Outdoor coffee and side tables guide

Yes, fibre cement is completely weatherproof and can be left outside in all conditions. It's non-porous, won't stain, doesn't require sealing, and is unaffected by rain, UV or temperature variation. It's one of the most maintenance free outdoor table materials available, and its weight means it won't move in wind.

Outdoor coffee tables should sit 3–5cm below the height of your garden sofa seat cushions, typically 30–40cm high. This is slightly lower than indoor coffee tables, reflecting the lower seat height of most outdoor sofas. Check the sofa seat height before buying to ensure the table sits at a comfortable reach.

Yes, all our outdoor coffee and side tables are designed for use near pools and in areas exposed to water splash. Fibre cement and aluminium are non-porous; teak's natural oils make it resistant to both moisture and chlorine. Rinse teak occasionally with fresh water in high-chlorine environments.

Teak tables benefit from an annual oiling if you want to maintain the warm golden-brown colour. If you're content with the silver-grey patina teak develops naturally, no treatment is required. Aluminium and fibre cement require no treatment at all, just an occasional wipe with a damp cloth.

Yes, all our outdoor dining tables are designed to handle rain. Teak and aluminium drain and dry naturally; fibre cement is non-porous and completely unaffected by water. In very heavy rain, bringing cushions inside is recommended if the table is in an exposed position.

Solid teak, powder coated aluminium and fibre cement are the three most practical outdoor dining table materials for Australian conditions. Teak is traditional and improves with age, aluminium is lightweight and requires zero maintenance and fibre cement is the heaviest, most stable and completely weatherproof.
