Designing the way people live since 1964.
Born on October 4, 1931, in Kingston upon Thames, Terence Conran, then a young designer, opened the first Habitat store in London in 1964. Frustrated by the inability to sell his designs, which were rejected by stores of the time, he believed it was possible to offer a significant improvement in lifestyle to a wider audience.
In the mid-1960s, tastes were changing, social mores were evolving, and the new generation dreamed of furnishing their homes differently. With Habitat, Terence Conran revolutionised interior design and was committed to making design accessible to everyone. In the stores, it was not uncommon to meet a member of the Beatles or even the royal family.
Our history, our future
After going through a period of transition, the Habitat brand is being relaunched in early 2024 by the Vente-unique.com group, an expert in online furniture sales in France and Europe since 2006. This change is accompanied by both a desire to revive our rich heritage and to reconnect with our commitment to excellence and accessibility in design.
Our commitment to innovation, quality, and product sustainability remains stronger than ever. We continue to promote accessible and timeless design, respecting the original spirit of the brand. At Habitat, reinventing everyday
life through creations that are both beautiful and functional remains our core mission, so that every home can reflect the best of contemporary design and thus continue to write the story begun by Sir Terence Conran.
Since its creation in 1964 by Sir Terence Conran, Habitat has distinguished itself by offering a range of timeless objects and furnishings, accessible to all. Our collections, composed of functional and high-quality pieces, embody the spirit of a pop, joyful and bold design, making the Habitat brand an essential reference in the world of design.
The very essence of Habitat lies in its commitment to democratising interior design, by offering innovative and inspiring collections that reflect boldness and modernity.
Making design accessible means enabling everyone to own contemporary pieces and enrich their daily lives through beauty, durability, and quality. This is a deep conviction that Sir Terence Conran always championed with passion and determination, and one we are committed to upholding to ensure the lasting satisfaction of our customers.
