Console tables: A buyer's guide

The most effective console styling is restrained. A lamp on one side, one or two considered objects, a small vase, a tray and a mirror above is usually enough. Avoid the urge to fill every surface. The best entrance console tables look used and lived-in, not dressed for a photoshoot.

Several consoles in our range include drawers or a lower shelf, which adds practical storage without adding visual weight. A lower shelf is useful for baskets or books; drawers are better for items you'd prefer to keep out of sight. The internal configuration is shown in the product listing and images.

Standard console height is 75–80cm, which aligns with most standard table heights and works well against a wall or behind a sofa. In a hallway, a slightly taller console at 80–90cm can feel more graceful and is easier to use as a drop point for bags and keys without bending down.

Yes, a console table is one of the best pieces for a hallway. It provides a practical surface for keys, mail and everyday items without taking up much floor space. Pair it with a mirror above and a small basket or stool below and you have a functional, considered entry without filling the space.

Standard console table depth is 30–40cm, shallow enough to sit against a wall without protruding significantly into the room. This narrow depth is what makes them so useful in hallways and behind sofas, where a deeper piece would create an obstacle. Check the depth specification carefully if the space is tight.
