Side tables and what to consider

Yes, several side tables in our range include a small drawer or lower shelf. These are particularly useful in a living room or bedroom where you want the surface clear but need somewhere close at hand for small items. The specific configuration is shown in the product listing.

One well chosen side table is usually enough beside a sofa or armchair. Two can work at either end of a longer sofa, though they don't need to match, using two different but complementary pieces often looks more considered than an identical pair. A lamp on the side table is the most useful pairing.

Our side table range includes solid oak, marble, ceramic, metal and blown glass. Each material brings a different quality: oak for warmth, marble for considered luxury, ceramic for durability, metal for a lighter industrial feel, and blown glass for something more sculptural and distinctive.

Yes, many of our side tables work equally well as bedside tables. The dimensions are often similar, and the material options: oak, marble and ceramic suit a bedroom context as well as a living room. Check the height relative to your mattress: the ideal bedside table sits level with or slightly below the top of the mattress.

A coffee table sits lower, typically 40–45cm and is designed to be used from a sofa, positioned in the centre of the seating arrangement. A side table is taller 55–65cm and sits beside a sofa or armchair. Both serve a surface function but at different heights and in different positions within a room.
