The Designer

Hélèna Pille

Trained in applied arts and a lover of wood, Hélèna Pille began her career at Sylvain Joly Design before joining the Habitat studio in 2011. Since then she has designed close to 20 collections for the brand, becoming a defining figure in Habitat's creative DNA. Drawn to architecture and fine materials, she imagines furniture that is enduring and functional, with a preference for well-considered storage and clean lines. Among her iconic collections are Ivoine, a solid oak collection with a minimalist, Scandinavian-inspired design, and Camus, an elegant bookcase that has become a house reference. Today she also designs the Milord collection, inspired by bas-relief and Mediterranean architecture, where sculpted volumes meet formal restraint.

The Camus collection

Let the grid guide you but not dictate. Stack books in some cubbies, leave others open, and punctuate the arrangement with sculptural ceramics or trailing plants. The ladder adds rhythm, so lean into it. Surround the piece with low seating and natural textures to let the bookcase command the room without overwhelming it.

Hi i put this on the second floor in my study and bought it without considering the weight. Is it going to break my flooring? Its against a wall and my place is pretty modern.

European Lifestyle

Hi Max,

That's a very reasonable thing to check. The Camus Bookcase weighs 239.5 kg on its own and measures 200 cm wide, 44 cm deep and 238 cm high. Each shelf is designed to hold up to 20 kg, so the total weight will grow as you fill it.

Whether a floor can carry that load depends on how your home was built, so a builder or structural engineer is best placed to confirm it. We wouldn't want to give you a guess on something this important. The figures above should give them everything they need. Our Customer Care team will also be in touch directly in case you'd like any further details.

In the meantime, please make sure the bookcase is secured to the wall as shown in the assembly instructions. Tall bookcases like the Camus need to be anchored to prevent toppling.

We'd love the Camus to settle into your study with complete peace of mind.
